Blowing Rock, NC - Chetola Resort & Spa

If you’ve been following for sometime, then you know winter is kinda my thing. I’m a mountain girl through and through. Here at DK, I’m diving into travel within the Carolinas, and I’m sharing with y’all my absolute favorite mountain destination. Blowing Rock totally has my heart. I hope you guys fall in love with it too, as I take you through one luxurious mountain getaway!

CHETOLA RESORT

There’s nostalgia in the name, as Chetola Resort has been a long-standing trademark in the High Country. While there are a lot of activities to keep you busy at Chetola, I love to grab a hot cup of joe and cozy up by the fire pit. If you love to be active, there’s so many ways to get your fit on at Chetola. There’s access to walking trails and fitness classes. This winter enjoy sledding on the grounds, or touring the festival of lights in the evening. This summer, Chetola plans to open an Orvis fly fishing store and coffee shop.

CHETOLA SPA

Out of all the massages I’ve had in my life, the Swedish massage at Chetola was the ultimate in relaxation. Immediately upon checking in for your spa appointment, you are ushered into the most relaxing dark room, with a cozy fireplace and surrounding sofas. Make yourself a cup of tea, and really zen out before and after your massage. I love that you can book a spa treatment, even if you’re not resorting at Chetola.

TIMBERLAKE’S RESTAURANT at CHETOLA RESORT

Hands down, one of the best meals of my life was had at Timberlake’s Restaurant. It might have been the cornbread and apple butter that was brought to the table. The duck and elk entrees were cooked to perfection. The menu at Timberlake’s is seasonal and ever changing. You don’t want to miss this comforting winter menu.

Timberlake’s Restaurant is inspired by the famous North Carolina artist; Bob Timberlake. This cozy restaurant features his art all throughout, but I think the most memorable thing I saw was a quote from Bob Timberlake reading, “I can’t cook a lick, but I know some people who can.” That saying definitely serves true for Timberlake’s delicious Restaurant!

CHETOLA ACCOMODATIONS

Chetola Resort has several options for lodging. Looking for a romantic getaway? Then you will want to look into The Bob Timberlake Inn. Here, there are eight select rooms with access to a personal pantry, nightly wine and cheese social, complimentary breakfast, private parlor and library. I toured this enchanting portion of the resort, and I must say, it is so romantic!

Chetola Lodge has stunning newly renovated rooms that include views of the lake or grounds. The rooms in the lodge have been designed with nature in mind. They also feature work from local artists and craftsmen. My favorite touch are the Pendleton blankets on each bed. The lodge also has a floor dedicated to pet friendly stays.

BLOWING ROCK SHOPS

Downtown Blowing Rock > Welcome to my little slice of heaven; Downtown Blowing Rock. Unique boutiques, antique stores, restaurants and cozy coffee shops line this adorable Main Street. You will feel like you’re in a Hallmark movie walking around here! Below, I’ve listed my noteworthy stores.

The Stable >> Check out my favorite store. This trendy boutique specializes in contemporary style and home decor.

Windwood Antiques >> I always find a treasure in here, and I do mean I have never left this store without buying something. It is seriously the best antique shop.

For additional shopping check out Tanger Outlets. Chetola is so close to Tanger Outlets, that you can access through a private walking trail.

BLOWING ROCK EATS

The Speckled Trout > As a NC girl, I appreciate the regional dishes here. The almond and cornmeal crusted trout is a must, along with these pimento sliders!

Casa Rustica > A romantic date night fav is Casa Rustica. It is such a cozy restaurant and the food is alway amazing.

BLOWING ROCK ACTIVITIES

Appalachian Ski Mtn. > A long time lover of hitting the slopes, my NC go to has always been App Ski Mtn. I love the retro vibes of the lodge! If you’re not an active skier or snowboarder, grab lunch with a view here.

The Blowing Rock > Experience North Carolina’s oldest travel attraction; The Blowing Rock. Stunning views of our Blue Ridge Mountains are found here. Step out on the rock, just don’t look down at the 4,000 foot drop off!

Bass Lake > Situated right outside of Downtown Blowing Rock is Bass Lake. You can walk the one mile loop around the lake to breathe in some fresh mountain air. In the summertime, come here for a little fishing.

Moses Cone Memorial Park > Known by the locals as Flat Top Manor, this landmark is right off The Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s a must visit to see the beautiful colonial mansion.
